From The Quality of Medical Data
Hi, I'm Leonard D'Avolio, a Ph.D. Candidate in UCLA's Department of Information Studies & Medical Imaging Informatics Group, and a National Library of Medicine Medical Informatics Fellow.
I research the issues surrounding the use of existing clinical data for secondary purposes, such as epidemiology, outcomes assessment, pay-for-performance, and decision support. This includes techniques for formatting and accessing the information in the record (e.g., natural language processing and information extraction), detecting patterns within collections of records (e.g., data & text mining, machine learning), as well as related issues. On my wiki, The Quality of Medical Data, I'm trying to bring together resources on a topic that is critical to secondary clinical data use, but often ignored.
